Version 1.3

PhonePlay v1.3: Real deadzones, snappier camera, Android 16

Big news

Android 16 phones work now. We upgraded to a custom build of scrcpy 4.0 under the hood. Older scrcpy versions were either broken or laggy on Android 16, so if you got a new phone recently this update is for you.

Steam is still coming. Everyone who owns PhonePlay before the Steam release gets a Steam key. Itch keeps getting every update. Just waiting on Steam to give the new codes.

What's new

  • Your deadzone slider actually works now. Fun fact: Windows quietly enforces a 26.5% stick deadzone before PhonePlay ever sees your input, and your slider was stacking on top of that. It's gone. The slider now means exactly what it says. If you have a Hall effect controller (GameSir, 8BitDo, GuliKit) you can run it as low as 1-2% and it feels incredible.
  • Touches look like real fingers. Touch size, shape, and lift taper are now modeled on capture data from a real phone. Picky games are less likely to ignore or misread your inputs.
  • Buttons glow when pressed. Mapped buttons light up green on the canvas in real time, so you can watch your inputs fire while you tune a layout.
  • Leaner debug log. The log no longer records every controller poll by default, so it stays tiny. The full firehose still exists for when I need it to chase your bug.

Fixes

  • Slide mode updated. New profiles default to zero. If you have an existing profile, open it and set "Hold before slide" to 0 ms to get the fix. If you're playing a game that requires a hold to register (Outlanders), make sure to adjust this setting to that game.
  • Stuck touches from fast mouse clicks are gone. A stray move event after mouse-up was leaving a phantom finger on the screen.
  • Stick release feels cleaner. Letting go of a stick now eases back naturally instead of snapping, which stops the twitch some games showed on release.

Thanks

Massive thanks to Ovan, who tested this entire release on his weird ass setup: a Pixel 10 Pro XL and a Hall effect GameSir G7 SE, daisy-chained through a passive USB hub for maximum chaos. Half the fixes above exist because he kept insisting something felt off, and he kept being right. His reward is that his controller finally works at a 1% deadzone like he wanted.
